A man armed with two knives attacked a Serbian gendarmerie officer guarding Israel's Embassy in Belgrade shortly after midnight on Wednesday. Serbian authorities said the guard, a member of the local gendarmerie, opened fire and killed the attacker. The guard was lightly wounded.
Dačić said police raised the terror threat level to its highest grade and deployed more officers at vulnerable locations, the Associated Press reported.
Dačić described the assailant as a teenager and said security services already knew him as a supporter of ISIS. Describing the assault, he said:
"A minor, so far unidentified... shouting Allahu Akbar, attacked the member of Gendarmerie and attacked him with two knives."
Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said the authorities are treating the stabbing as a terror attack.
