After the polls

Abbas: I'll decide after there's a government

Ra'am chairman responds to Eisenkot's criteria for joining a coalition: With these numbers, there is no government

Mansour Abbas

Ra'am chairman MK Mansour Abbas cast doubt last night on the possibility of forming a government under the current scenario, responding to coalition conditions set by Yishar party leader Gadi Eisenkot.

Speaking live on Channel 12 after the release of election polls, Abbas said flatly: "With these numbers, there is no government."

Asked in the studio about his position on the criteria Eisenkot had laid out for joining a coalition under his leadership or participation, Abbas made clear he was not rushing to commit. "I will decide whether to meet the criteria Gadi Eisenkot presented after I know if there is a government," he said.

Abbas's remarks come against the backdrop of quiet contacts and assessments in the political system regarding the various options for assembling a coalition, with the question mark surrounding the position of the Arab parties remaining one of the central issues on election night.
