Election Day in Bnei Brak

Bochur switches vote after meeting Rav Hirsch

A chareidi voter came to Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch intending to vote for the economic party, but changed his mind on the spot. I nullified my opinion after I saw the Rosh Yeshiva stamping his feet, he explained.

I Wanted to Vote for Zelekha, I Changed my Mind after Seeing the Rosh Yeshiva

A moving video from election day shows the power of bittul daas to gedolei Yisrael: a chareidi voter came to the Rosh Yeshiva, HaGaon Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlita, intending to vote for Prof. Yaron Zelekha's economic party, but ended up voting for Degel HaTorah instead.

In the footage released Tuesday, the Rosh Yeshiva's grandson presented the bochur and asked for a brachah on his behalf: "There's someone named Zelekha... secular... who has an economic party. And he said that if Zeide... if there's a brachah from Zeide, that there should be good and calm parnassah, then he'll vote for Degel HaTorah."

But the voter himself quickly corrected the record: "It was the opposite! It was the opposite. I said I'm nullifying my opinion, because we saw the Rosh Yeshiva stamping his feet and calling to support the Rosh Yeshiva and the gedolei Yisrael, and we nullified our opinion. Regardless, we're also asking for a brachah."

The grandson added: "But regardless, he's asking for a brachah."

Rav Moshe Hillel Hirsch answered the voter with a warm brachah: "And in the merit of this... Hashem should help you with siyata d'Shmaya in everything... in everything, in parnassah, in simchah and in all good."

The voter responded emotionally: "Amen, yasher koach!"
