Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is heard in a leaked audio recording telling a Gur chassid that he is alarmed by low chareidi voter turnout.
"Have the ultra-Orthodox gone crazy? Crazy? They're not voting? We're doomed!"
Netanyahu made the remarks during an urgent conversation captured on the recording, which Amit Segal reported.
As reported on Tuesday, Likud and Netanyahu requested that polling stations stay open beyond 22:00. Political correspondent and analyst Michael Shemesh said one possible motive was to give Likud voters more time to reach the polls, as turnout data showed lower-than-expected participation in some Likud strongholds.
Later official turnout figures released on Tuesday showed signs of recovery in solidly Likud cities, which had lagged below expectations through the morning hours.
