Israeli Tourist in Critical Condition After Thailand Car Accident

An Israeli toursit injured in a road accident in northern Thailand remains in critical condition with his life in danger, according to an update from Passportcard's situation room on Sunday.

The injured man underwent a second surgery overnight which slightly stabilized his condition, but he remains sedated and ventilated with his life still at risk.

Five other injured individuals are in fair to moderate condition and have been transferred to Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai for continued medical monitoring. They are expected to meet with their parents in the coming hours, after their parents were flown to Thailand via Passportcard.

The accident occurred last Saturday in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. Passportcard's situation room received a report of a serious road accident involving Israeli travelers riding together in a minibus. One was critically injured, while five others sustained limb injuries of varying lesser severity.

Medical teams called to the scene, assisted by the Magnus search and rescue unit, evacuated the injured to three different hospitals in the area according to their medical condition. Yesterday, the critically injured person underwent initial surgery and his condition was defined as serious, with a diagnosis of multi-system trauma.

Passportcard said its situation room maintained continuous contact with the injured tourists and their families, and that the company handled the financing and flight arrangements for all the injured travelers' parents to Thailand on Saturday, so they could be at their side during medical treatment.
