Dozens of armed police in Manchester are surrounding an armed suspect wearing a vest in a park in the heart of the Jewish neighborhood.
Dozens of armed officers are currently surrounding a male suspect in a children’s park in the heart of Broughton, Salford — a heavily Jewish (Haredi) area of Greater Manchester.
Reports describe the man as armed and wearing what appears to be a suicide vest.
Roads have been closed and the public is being told to stay away.
What Actually Happened
Around midday today (March 20, 2026), a man dressed in black was seen exercising at an outdoor gym. Witnesses, fearing the worst, reported him as wearing an explosive vest and carrying a weapon. Armed officers descended on Mandley Park on Leicester Road. A police helicopter was dispatched, and roads were quickly cordoned off.
Because the park is in the heart of a sensitive Jewish neighborhood (Broughton), the Community Security Trust (CST) and GMP took zero chances. Footage showed officers with weapons drawn, ordering the man to his knees.
After a brief and tense standoff, officers confirmed the man was simply working out with a weighted vest and a skipping rope.
