Exiled Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi said he is prepared to lead a transitional government if the Islamic Republic falls, as the war in Iran entered its third week.
Pahlavi, the son of the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, said he and his allies have been working for months on a transition plan designed to prevent a collapse of governance if the regime falls.
In a social media statement, he said a network of “capable individuals” inside and outside Iran has already been identified to form a provisional leadership structure.
According to Pahlavi, the proposed transitional system would move quickly to restore order and security while preparing the country for democratic rule.
“The transitional system, under my leadership, will be ready to assume governance of the country as soon as the Islamic Republic falls,” he said, adding that the goal would be to establish freedom, stability and the conditions for economic recovery.
Pahlavi has lived in exile since the 1979 Islamic Revolution that overthrew Iran’s monarchy and created the Islamic Republic.
In recent years he has tried to position himself as a unifying figure among opposition groups, arguing that Iran must undergo a complete break from the current regime before a democratic system can emerge.
He has repeatedly said the country’s future leadership should ultimately be decided by Iranian voters through free elections.
