The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the background to the murder of the Israeli businessman in Alexandria yesterday (Tuesday) was criminal - not a terrorist attack.

"On May 7, a Canadian businessman, permanently residing in the country, was exposed to a criminal shooting in Alexandria. Legal steps were taken and a team was formed to reveal the circumstances of the incident," said the ministry.

The Ministry also reported that the murdered man possessed Canadian-Israeli citizenship. The Israeli Embassy in Cairo is in contact with local authorities who are investigating the case.
