In an unprecedented move against the rising tide of antisemitism, former President Donald Trump has delivered a resounding message to American colleges—those promoting hatred towards Israel and Jews will face consequences.

Trump’s executive order, signed last week, specifically targets non-citizen students participating in pro-Hamas protests and any student expressing support for the Iranian-backed terrorist organization. Under this order, student visas will be revoked, and those involved in antisemitic activities will face deportation.

This action is a clear stand against the widespread antisemitism that has permeated many U.S. campuses. As Hamas continues its attacks on Israel, Trump’s decision underscores his unwavering support for the Jewish state and sends a strong message to anyone who seeks to undermine Israel’s right to exist or engages in violent pro-terrorism activities. The Trump administration’s policy on visa cancellations marks a clear departure from his predecessor’s stance and aligns with his deep commitment to ensuring a strong U.S.-Israel relationship.

In an Economist/YouGov poll conducted between February 2-4, 43% of Americans expressed support for Trump’s crackdown on campus antisemitism, and the backing is especially strong among Republicans, with 71% approving of the deportation measures for pro-Hamas activists. The policy has struck a chord with Americans who understand the importance of combating terrorism and protecting Israel’s security interests. In contrast, only 20% of Democrats support the move, highlighting the sharp political divide on such issues.

What makes the poll especially striking is the context, as 30% of Americans believe Trump’s executive orders have stayed within constitutional bounds. This suggests that, despite controversy over some of his actions, a significant portion of Americans still believe that his approach to governance remains legally sound and aligned with American values.

Beyond the issue of antisemitism, Trump’s administration has also attracted attention for its economic policies, including a controversial proposal to dissolve the Department of Education and impose a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada. However, the strong public support for his firm stance on antisemitism proves his actions resonate with many voters who value security, justice, and Israel’s defense.

Trump’s approval rating stands at 46%, showing improvement over his first term. While he remains slightly behind President Biden in terms of overall approval, Trump’s bold moves, particularly his stand for Israel and his firm stance against antisemitism, will undoubtedly continue to shape the national conversation leading into the 2024 election.

His administration’s swift action to cancel visas for pro-Hamas students and impose such a hardline stance against antisemitism is a clear testament to his commitment to defending both American values and the safety and security of Israel, proving once again why he remains a formidable figure in U.S. politics.
