BREAKING: European Union Designates Iran's Revolutionary Guards as Terror Organization
Historic Decision Following Violent Crackdown on Protests; Foreign Minister Saar: "Number One Source of Terror Now Called by Its Name"

It's now official: European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas announced today (Thursday) that the EU is designating Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. The move comes against the backdrop of the violent and deadly suppression of protests in Iran in recent weeks.
"Repression and harm to civilians cannot remain without a response," Kallas said. "We have now taken a decisive step and designated the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. Any regime that murders thousands of its own people – is advancing its own end."
Foreign Minister Gideon Saar responded by saying he "welcomes the decision by the foreign ministers of the European Union to declare Iran's Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. This is an important and historic decision. For years Israel has worked, and in recent weeks with renewed intensity, in an effort to reach this result."
According to him, "The number one source of spreading terror and undermining regional stability is now called by its name. The declaration of the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization will thwart and criminalize all of its activities in Europe. It will economically damage an organization that concentrates a huge percentage of the Iranian regime's economy and it sends an important message to the sons and daughters of the Iranian people fighting for their freedom. Above all, the legitimacy of this murderous and oppressive regime suffered a tremendous blow today."
This represents a significant blow to the organization, as all its members will now be placed under terror watch lists or banned from entering EU member states, in addition to massive economic damage to the regime. The official declaration comes after weeks in which several countries, including France, Belgium, and Spain, blocked the decision, but in recent days they changed their position and said they would support the move.
