Jason Arday, a former sociology of education professor at Cambridge University, was found dead at his home in the Battersea neighborhood of south London. He was 41 years old.
According to London's Metropolitan Police, officers responded to his residence on Friday after emergency services reported calls concerning an unresponsive individual. Arday was pronounced dead at the scene. Police described the death as "unexpected" but stated that at this stage there is no suspicion of criminal involvement. The case will be referred to the coroner for investigation.
Arday's death came shortly after he resigned from his position at Cambridge. His resignation followed the opening of an investigation into allegations of plagiarism in his academic work, as well as questions raised about details he had provided regarding his achievements, qualifications, and appointments throughout his career.
The university announced it had launched an inquiry after receiving new information concerning Arday's academic background and the process by which he was appointed. Cambridge stated that even after his resignation, the investigation would continue, and that its findings might inform a broader review of appointment procedures for senior academic positions at the institution.
