Hollywood Tragedy

Hayden Panettiere Dies at 36

The "Heroes" actress was discovered unresponsive at her South Carolina apartment. Emergency responders reported suspicion of drug overdose at the scene.

Hayden Panettiere

Hayden Panettiere, the actress who achieved international fame for her role in the hit television series "Heroes," was found dead Sunday at her apartment in Greenville, South Carolina. She was 36 years old, just five days before her 37th birthday. According to reports from American media, authorities suspect the cause of death was a drug overdose.

An emergency call recording obtained by Page Six reveals details from the moments following the discovery of Panettiere's body. At 1:51 p.m. on Sunday, a 911 call reported an "unresponsive woman" and "cardiac arrest" at the actress's address.

Minutes later, audio from the emergency dispatch indicates that medical personnel on scene were investigating the possibility of an "overdose" at the location and that "resuscitation is being performed."

Paramedics who arrived at the scene attempted to save Panettiere's life using advanced life support measures, including chest compressions and other resuscitation efforts. However, at 2:32 p.m.—less than an hour after the initial emergency call—she was pronounced dead. The identity of the person who placed the 911 call has not been disclosed, though reports indicate Panettiere was discovered by an individual whose name has not been released to the public.

Police stated that no "signs of criminal activity" were found at the scene, and an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted today. According to reports, Panettiere had flown from Los Angeles over the weekend with her partner, though it remains unclear whether he was the one who found her.

A Long Struggle with Addiction

Panettiere's life story was marked by difficult personal battles. The actress, who grew up in front of cameras from a very young age, publicly and courageously fought mental health issues and addiction throughout her life. Her major breakthrough came at age 17, when she portrayed Claire Bennet in the series "Heroes."

A particularly difficult turning point came in 2014, following the birth of her daughter Kaya, whom she shared with her former partner, boxer Wladimir Klitschko. Panettiere suffered from severe postpartum depression and spoke openly about how the immense pressure, feelings of isolation, and impossible expectations profoundly affected her mental health.

A Troubling Pattern in Hollywood

Panettiere's death joins a long list of tragic cases in Hollywood. Matthew Perry from the series "Friends" also died from a ketamine overdose, as determined by autopsy reports. In that case, one of two doctors who supplied him with the drug pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in his death as part of a plea agreement.

Panettiere's story offers a glimpse into the heavy price of early fame and the long, complex road to recovery. The rapid transition from childhood to adulthood under the media and public microscope took a severe toll on her, as she acknowledged in recent years.
