The pilot who attempted to hijack a Fly Dubai aircraft bound for Israel last week received his professional flight training in Britain, the Telegraph reported Wednesday.
Hamam al-Hamami, the Omani pilot who tried to seize control of the flight, studied at the L3 Airline Academy between 2018 and 2019, when it was one of the United Kingdom's leading pilot training institutions.
The academy operated training centres in Southampton and Bournemouth, alongside an advanced simulator facility near Gatwick Airport. The operation later became part of Acron Aviation.
The British report clarified that there is no allegation of improper or illegal conduct by the flight academy or the companies operating it. The report also noted that the school had professional ties with Oman Air, where al-Hamami worked until February 2025.
Acron Aviation responded to the findings, stating the company would provide full cooperation to law enforcement authorities.
A company spokesman said: "We were saddened to hear about the incident, and our thoughts are with all those affected by it. As a matter of policy, we do not comment publicly on whether any individual is or was a student of ours. We will of course assist the relevant authorities, if required and in any way we can, as part of the investigation into the incident."
