Forces from the Northern Brigade, under the command of Division 99 and Southern Command engineering units, are continuing operations to clear northern Gaza of terror infrastructure east of the Yellow Line.
During the operation, brigade forces working with divisional engineering units destroyed an underground route stretching 1.5 kilometers.
The demolished infrastructure is a subterranean route approximately 1.5 kilometers in length, located in territory added following the expansion of the Yellow Line. The expansion stemmed from an operational need to protect forces and communities, and the route was one of the central considerations for extending operational control in the area. The route was destroyed in segments, causing significant damage to the infrastructure and the surrounding area.
The IDF noted that since the ceasefire, numerous tunnels have been destroyed in the Yellow Line area. In recent weeks, the line has been expanded for operational reasons, and as part of the expansion, underground infrastructure has been located and dealt with. Some of these were known to the IDF and were physically exposed with the extension of operational control, allowing forces to destroy them.
The underground realm is a complex and invisible domain in which Hamas operated with significant compartmentalization. The IDF is investing intelligence and technological efforts, including systematic drilling along the line, to achieve greater certainty.
The assessment is that the underground will continue to serve Hamas as an operational tool. Accordingly, the IDF continues to adapt its detection and defense capabilities.
