The Louvre Museum in Paris announced Monday that it was closing its doors immediately and until further notice, citing the violent protests sweeping France. "Due to the protests, the museum is currently closed. We apologize for the inconvenience," the museum said in a statement.
The decision to shut down one of the world's most visited museums came after protesters blocked the entrance to the complex since morning hours, as part of the wave of demonstrations across France. Long lines of frustrated tourists had formed outside before the museum announced the closure.
