Covert cooperation

Pakistani finds Israelis in Saudi ops room

A Pakistani army officer sent to Saudi Arabia to assist against the Houthis was surprised to discover Israeli intelligence officers sitting alongside American CENTCOM personnel in a Riyadh briefing room

A report circulating rapidly on Arab social media and international podcasts describes a Pakistani army officer who arrived in Saudi Arabia as part of a military assistance deployment and was surprised by what he found: in an intelligence briefing on Saudi soil, alongside American CENTCOM personnel, sat Israeli intelligence officers.

The story, even if not yet officially confirmed, fits closely with real geopolitical processes exposed in recent months, and explains why it is generating so much attention.

Two parallel channels

In the second half of 2026, Saudi Arabia absorbed a sharp escalation of drone and missile attacks from the Houthis. The kingdom operated on two tracks simultaneously:

The official Muslim channel, the "Mecca Alliance" with Pakistan and Turkey. Under this framework, Pakistani advisers and forces were sent to assist in defending the kingdom, primarily in a defensive capacity. Pakistan officially confirmed the presence of forces under the new agreement.

The covert channel, a request for advanced intelligence assistance through the American Central Command (CENTCOM). Israeli and international reports from September 2026 revealed that Saudi Arabia requested (and received) Israeli intelligence assistance against the Houthis: locations of launchers, weapons depots and infrastructure along the Red Sea coast. All through American mediation, without formal diplomatic relations.

US President Donald Trump confirmed in remarks to reporters that Israel is providing active assistance to Saudi Arabia in the campaign against the Houthi rebels from Yemen. "Yes, I think so. Maybe more than ever before. Saudi Arabia is very happy to receive Israel's support and our support," the president replied when asked whether the Abraham Accords had returned to the discussion table.

Trump was also asked whether Riyadh should accept the Israeli assistance being offered to it, and ruled decisively: "Yes, I think so. Israel has helped Saudi Arabia a lot." According to assessments, Israeli assistance to Riyadh has so far focused on transferring quality intelligence on targets.

The geopolitical significance

  1. CENTCOM as a bridge: since Israel was transferred to the responsibility of US Central Command, CENTCOM serves as a platform enabling practical cooperation between Israel and Arab states without the need for open relations.
  2. Embarrassment for Pakistan: a Sunni Muslim state that does not recognize Israel. The thought that its officers are sitting in the same room, or drawing on information originating from Israel, creates internal embarrassment in Islamabad and raises questions about the boundaries of the "Mecca Alliance."
  3. Normalization in practice: The shared threat (the Iran-Houthi axis) is stronger than public declarations. While Riyadh officially freezes the normalization process with Israel, security cooperation behind the scenes continues to tighten.
