US Security Alert for Americans in Israel, Mideast

US missions in 12 countries urge heightened vigilance • Americans told to prepare for flight cancellations and airspace closures | Iran and its proxies may target US interests worldwide

Prepare for Flight Cancellations: US Issues Security Alert for Americans in the Middle East

American diplomatic missions in 12 Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, issued security alerts on Sunday. The alerts urge US citizens to exercise heightened vigilance over threats from Iran and its proxies, and to prepare for flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions.

JNS reported that the alerts covered Israel, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. For Americans living in, studying in or visiting Israel, that means the same instruction applies: watch for disrupted flights and closed skies.

The warning was also posted on the TravelGov account, which described the regional situation in blunt terms:

"Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance due to the complex security environment. Be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions."

The alerts cite recent Houthi attacks on Saudi civilian airports and critical infrastructure, and warn that the fighting could spread beyond the kingdom.

The reach of the threat goes beyond the region. Iran and groups aligned with it may target US interests worldwide, including American businesses, institutions and other US-linked locations.

i24NEWS reported that Americans are being advised to make contingency plans, as the Houthi campaign against Saudi Arabia raises fears of a wider escalation.

Cairo is also preparing a response. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has called for urgent parliamentary approval to deploy military support if Saudi Arabia asks for help defending itself, and parliamentary discussions are set to continue Monday.
