Tehran turns up the heat

IRGC Threatens Israel With 'Scorched Earth'

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohabbi warned that any attack on Iran's energy infrastructure would turn Israel into scorched earth, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Netanyahu of driving America into another war.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards Threaten Israel With 'Scorched Earth Forever'

Hossein Mohabbi, spokesman for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, warned on Sunday that any strike on Iranian energy infrastructure would leave Israel "scorched earth forever." Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi went after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the same day, accusing him of driving America into another war.

Arutz Sheva reported that Mohabbi delivered the threat in a post on X.

"Any attack on Iran's energy infrastructure, although it will immediately be repaired by our young scientists, will turn the occupied territories into scorched earth forever and drive its usurpers into the Sinai Desert. The world will see what happens."

Araghchi aimed his message at President Donald Trump. He rejected Trump's suggestion that Washington could take further military action against Iran, then turned to Netanyahu.

The exchange followed a Truth Social post in which Trump endorsed Netanyahu ahead of Israel's October 27 Knesset election. Trump called the prime minister "a Great Warrior Prime Minister" in the fight against Iran. He said the Islamic Republic had been "systematically destroyed, both Militarily and Financially" and added that "unless they change their ways, rapidly, we will soon finish the job."

Trump also tied the US approach toward Tehran directly to the Israeli vote. "If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so," he wrote.

Araghchi's message came after Trump's Truth Social post earlier on Sunday.

Iran also named a new defense minister on Sunday, Ynet reported. Mehrdad Akhlaqi, 68, is a sanctioned veteran of Iran's ballistic missile program.

Araghchi said on Sunday that Iran is "better prepared for self-defense than ever before."

In a separate analysis on Sunday night, Israeli, American and allied intelligence agencies had found no concrete indication that Iran was preparing an imminent strike on Israel or its partners.
