"Mr. President"

Iran FM mocks Macron over Paris riots

As thousands are arrested in France's cost-of-living protests, Tehran's foreign minister uses leaked Trump texts and riot footage to accuse Macron of hypocrisy and warmongering

Iranian FM Mocks Macron over Paris Riots: You Made Your Bed

The wave of violent protests sweeping France over the cost of living and rising inflation has turned into a diplomatic sparring match: Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, posted a frontal attack on X mocking French President Emmanuel Macron openly.

In a particularly combative post, Araghchi exploited Macron's political troubles at home, linking the mass riots in France to Paris's foreign policy in the Middle East.

"Macron made his bed"

"Mr. Macron made his bed when he promised POTUS he that he welcomes atrocities against Iranians," Araghchi wrote.

The Iranian minister continued in a mocking tone: "Too late to blame the war his ilk helped cause. The French people demand wholesale change, including freedom of assembly. Listen to France's future, Mr. President."

Embarrassing text messages and images of 1,800 arrested

The Iranian post was accompanied by a split-screen image that sharpened the sting:

Trump's disclosure (left side): a screenshot of a post Donald Trump published on Truth Social, showing a text message Macron allegedly sent him in the past. In the message, Macron proposes cooperation against Iran and Syria, courting Trump and offering him dinner in Paris and meetings on the sidelines of the Davos summit.

The riots in real time (right side): a photograph from a live broadcast of Macron's address to the French nation, with a dramatic news headline at the bottom of the screen: "1,800 arrested as France faces riots over rising prices."

The Tehran regime sought to present Macron as an agent of American foreign policy and a failed leader. Iran is exploiting the suppression of protests in France and the mass arrests to answer the European champion of "human rights" in kind, hinting that the man who blessed actions against the Iranian people now faces unprecedented popular fury at home.
