Trump Seeks Challenger for Former Ally Rep. Lauren Boebert

In a Truth Social post, Trump asked whether anyone was interested in running against Boebert in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, calling her “weak minded” and accusing her of being a “carpetbagger."

President Donald Trump threatened Saturday to back a primary challenger against Rep. Lauren Boebert after the Colorado Republican campaigned for Rep. Thomas Massie, one of Trump’s most outspoken GOP critics.

In a Truth Social post, Trump asked whether anyone was interested in running against Boebert in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, calling her “weak minded” and accusing her of being a “carpetbagger” for moving from Colorado’s 3rd District to the more conservative 4th District ahead of the 2024 election.

Boebert appeared with Massie at two campaign events in Kentucky on Friday. Massie is facing a Trump-backed primary challenge from Ed Gallrein, a retired Navy SEAL and farmer.

Trump has been working to defeat Massie, who has repeatedly broken with him on major issues. Massie refused to vote for Trump’s signature “Big Beautiful Bill” and has criticized the administration’s foreign policy, including its actions in Venezuela and Iran.

Massie has also attacked Trump over the Epstein files, accusing the president of failing to keep promises of transparency.

“Donald Trump told us that even though he had dinner with these kinds of people in New York City and West Palm Beach, that he would be transparent. But he’s not,” Massie told ABC’s This Week in February. “This is the Epstein administration.”

Trump called Massie “the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman in the History of our Country” and said Boebert’s decision to campaign for him justified a primary challenge.

“Anybody who can be that dumb deserves a good Primary fight,” Trump wrote.

Boebert responded on X, saying she expected political consequences when she chose to support Massie.

“Yes, I saw the President’s post. No, I’m not mad or offended,” she wrote. “I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie.”

Boebert has long been a vocal Trump supporter, and Trump previously endorsed her. But the relationship has deteriorated in recent days. In addition to campaigning for Massie, Boebert backed his bill to release the Epstein files and criticized Trump after he vetoed legislation tied to a water project in southern Colorado in December 2025.

Trump said he would withdraw his endorsement of Boebert if the “right person” entered the race.

“It would be my Honor to withdraw that Endorsement, and endorse a good and proper alternative,” he wrote. “Just let me know, or announce your Candidacy, and I will be there for you.”
