Law enforcement arrested a heavily armed man at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, on Sunday after plainclothes federal agents observed him walking the grounds, taking photographs and videos, and appearing to monitor security-planning activities.
The suspect, 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele from nearby Downey, California, was arrested and accused of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of armor-piercing or prohibited ammunition. Taele was identified after deputies made contact with him.
According to law enforcement, investigators recovered what they described as an illegally modified AR-style rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, body armor, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, radio signal devices and multiple notebooks containing what the sheriff's department called "concerning statements."
The 38-year-old man, who had been under investigation for robbery, was at the Trump National Golf Course in the Los Angeles area days before Trump's visit. Authorities said Tuesday they arrested the suspect near President Trump's Los Angeles-area golf course ahead of his fundraising visit.
The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force and Secret Service are aiding in the investigation, officials said, and additional charges could be added as the investigation continues. "Currently, investigators have identified no credible threat to our communities," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated, adding that "this case underscores the importance of vigilance, strong partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and the proactive steps taken to identify and investigate suspicious activity before it can escalate."
Taele pleaded not guilty Tuesday to four charges, including second-degree robbery stemming from an alleged November 2025 incident and three weapons charges filed after his August 2 arrest at Trump National Golf Club, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
The arrest marks the latest in a series of security threats against the president. In April, gunfire erupted at the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton, when a suspect opened fire at a Secret Service checkpoint n what authorities describe as a foiled assassination attempt. Security officials have documented a persistent pattern of threats involving Iranian coordination with transnational criminal networks targeting high-profile U.S. officials.
