President Donald Trump intensified his attacks on Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during a rally late Tuesday, accusing her of fraudulently marrying her brother to enter the United States and mocking her religious head covering. The remarks mark a sharp escalation in Trump’s long-running feud with the Somali-born lawmaker.
Speaking to supporters, Trump said, “I love Ilhan Omar, whatever her name is. With the little turban. I love her. She comes here and does nothing but complain. She always complains. She comes from her country, maybe the worst in the world.” He went on to repeat a claim frequently circulated in right-wing media: “She married her brother to get into the country. She should be sent out of here.”
The crowd responded with cheers.
Omar, who has repeatedly denied the claim and has never faced charges related to it, fired back immediately on X. “Trump’s obsession with me is getting weird. He needs serious help,” she wrote. “Since he has no economic achievements to brag about, he’s recycling racist lies. He remains a national embarrassment.” The official White House account reposted her message and echoed Trump’s question: “Why did you marry your brother?”
