President Donald Trump intensified his attacks on Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during a rally late Tuesday, accusing her of fraudulently marrying her brother to enter the United States and mocking her religious head covering. The remarks mark a sharp escalation in Trump’s long-running feud with the Somali-born lawmaker.

Speaking to supporters, Trump said, “I love Ilhan Omar, whatever her name is. With the little turban. I love her. She comes here and does nothing but complain. She always complains. She comes from her country, maybe the worst in the world.” He went on to repeat a claim frequently circulated in right-wing media: “She married her brother to get into the country. She should be sent out of here.”

The crowd responded with cheers.

Omar, who has repeatedly denied the claim and has never faced charges related to it, fired back immediately on X. “Trump’s obsession with me is getting weird. He needs serious help,” she wrote. “Since he has no economic achievements to brag about, he’s recycling racist lies. He remains a national embarrassment.” The official White House account reposted her message and echoed Trump’s question: “Why did you marry your brother?”

Omar was born in Mogadishu and immigrated to the United States at age 13. Conspiracy claims about her marital history have circulated for years but have not been substantiated by evidence; she has condemned them as racist harassment. She is also one of Congress’s most outspoken critics of Israel, which has made her a frequent target of Trump and his allies.

The confrontation comes after Trump recently intensified his rhetoric toward Somali immigrants in Minnesota. His comments followed investigations that uncovered large-scale fraud involving state reimbursements for food distribution, medical care and other services. Prosecutors have said money from the scheme was funneled to Somalia, and some allegations link it to terror financing.

Last week Trump said the United States would be “making a mistake” if it continued allowing “garbage” from Somalia to enter the country, a remark he repeated while calling Omar and her allies “garbage” as well. Omar warned that “this hate-filled rhetoric could encourage dangerous actions from people who listen to the president.”

The exchange underscores the increasingly volatile political climate surrounding immigration, identity and extremism as the 2026 election cycle accelerates.
