7th US Serviceman Sorffly Davies Falls in Kuwait

The NYPD and New York National Guard mourn the death of Officer Sorffly Davius, a Major in the 42nd Infantry Division. Davius passed away following a medical episode while deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Epic Fury

The New York City Police Department and the New York National Guard are mourning the loss of Officer Sorffly Davius, who passed away Friday while deployed to Kuwait.

Major Davius, 46, was serving with the 42nd Infantry Division (known as the Rainbow Division) at Camp Buehring in support of Operation Epic Fury when he suffered what officials described as a medical episode. The New York National Guard confirmed that his death was the result of a non-hostile incident.

A Life of Service

Davius was a veteran Citizen Soldier with over two decades of military service and more than 10 years on the police force:

* NYPD Career: Joined the department in 2014 and was assigned to the 79th Precinct in northern Brooklyn (Bedford-Stuyvesant).

* Military Career: Enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in 2004. Before his deployment to Kuwait, he served as a data systems engineer and was a member of Joint Task Force Empire Shield, providing high-level security for New York City’s most sensitive transportation hubs.

* Family: He is survived by his wife and five children.
