Emergency Over Gulf

Following an earlier emergency declared by a KC-135 Stratotanker, the Pegasus was tracked descending toward Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar as rescue helicopters launched in support.

A U.S. Air Force KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling tanker has transmitted emergency squawk code 7700 over the Persian Gulf in the past hour, indicating a general in-flight emergency.

Flight tracking data and OSINT monitors show the aircraft (reportedly tail 18-46048) declared the emergency while operating in the region, with intermittent tracking as it descends. It is heading toward a nearby airfield, possibly in Qatar or the UAE. Rescue helicopters have reportedly launched from Al Udeid Air Base in response.

This is the second such incident this morning: an earlier KC-135 Stratotanker also squawked 7700 over the Persian Gulf off Iran and landed safely at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

The KC-46A was likely supporting intensive U.S. air operations in the region amid ongoing strikes and naval enforcement in the Strait of Hormuz. Heavy tanker activity has been reported over the Persian Gulf in recent days to sustain fighter and bomber missions.

No official U.S. Central Command statement has been released yet on the cause. Open-source observers note possible technical malfunctions, though some speculate electronic warfare or jamming interference in the high-threat environment near Iran.

Both aircraft appear to have continued flight after declaring the emergency.
