Rolled out Friday, the feature displays an account's true location and name-change history, empowering users to spot fakes amid the flood of AI-generated sob stories and recycled footage designed to inflame anti-Israel sentiment. X's statement nails it: "When you read content on X, you should be able to verify its authenticity. This is critical for staying informed about important issues happening in the world. Part of this is showing new information in accounts, including the country an account is located in, among other things."

Cyabra intelligence estimates over 40,000 coordinated profiles across platforms have pumped out 312,000+ posts, many from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Russia, Turkey, Afghanistan, and the UK. Israel's Foreign Ministry summed it up: “The Gaza Lie. Exposed. Freedom of speech is a core principle. So is transparency and accountability.”
