Iranian forces stopped and seized an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, according to footage published by the state-linked Fars News agency. Tehran claims the vessel was detained for violating maritime regulations and ignoring warnings from authorities.
The seizure adds pressure on the strategic waterway through which a third of global seaborne oil passes. Regional tensions remain elevated following Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forcing another commercial tanker to reverse course under threat of attack earlier this month, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
