Woman in her 60s struck by vehicle driven by former partner • Suspect found dead minutes later after falling from high-rise building | Police investigate domestic violence tragedy (Crime & Justice)

A devastating murder-suicide unfolded in Ramla this morning (Wednesday), leaving two people dead within minutes in what police are investigating as a domestic violence incident. A woman in her 60s was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by her former partner, who was found dead shortly afterward, having apparently jumped from the ninth floor of a residential building.
The tragic sequence of events began at 9:27 a.m. when emergency services received reports of a hit-and-run incident on Chaim Weizmann Boulevard in Ramla. Magen David Adom paramedics arrived at the scene to find the victim, a local resident, suffering from multi-system trauma. Matan Mizrachi, an MDA emergency medical technician, described the scene: "The pedestrian was lying conscious but suffering from multi-system trauma. We were told she had been struck by a vehicle."
The woman was evacuated to a hospital in critical condition, where medical teams fought to save her life. Despite their efforts, she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.
Swift Police Investigation Identifies Suspect
Officers from the Ramla Police Station in the Shefelah District responded immediately to the scene and launched an accelerated investigation. Within minutes, detectives identified the suspect as the victim's former partner, a man in his 70s who resided in the area. The rapid identification came as investigators pieced together witness accounts and examined the circumstances surrounding the hit-and-run.
As police conducted their search for the suspect, a second emergency call came in at 9:49 a.m. - just 22 minutes after the initial report. This time, the call reported a man who had fallen from approximately nine stories in Ramla. When MDA teams arrived at that location, they discovered the suspect lying without vital signs.
Dr. Kobi Shiff, a physician from MDA's motorcycle unit, and Mendi Amitai, a paramedic also from the motorcycle unit, provided a grim account of what they found. "We arrived at the scene and saw the injured person lying unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing, after apparently falling from a great height," they stated. "We performed medical examinations and were forced to pronounce him dead at the scene."
Pattern of Domestic Violence Tragedies
The Ramla incident represents the latest in a disturbing series of domestic violence-related deaths that have shocked Israeli society in recent weeks. Just days earlier, a father in the community of Aviel allegedly shot his six-year-old son before taking his own life, leaving that community reeling from the incomprehensible tragedy.
Police emphasized that their investigation into the Ramla case remains ongoing. Detectives are working to establish a complete timeline of events and determine whether there were prior warning signs or previous incidents of domestic violence between the former couple. Authorities have not released the identities of either the victim or the suspect pending notification of all family members.
