Lebanon has announced that the drilling and gas exploration platform of the French company "Total" has reached its location and has begun initial drilling and assessment of conditions in the Kana reservoir, which was handed over by Israel during the tenure of the "Shinui Government."

The drilling platform arrived in the area in recent days and is now positioned above the Kana reservoir. According to reports, it has commenced preparations and initial drilling. The Lebanese flag was raised on the platform to mark the beginning of its official activity.

According to Lebanese media, the entire Lebanese public's attention is directed towards the platform. Many hold hopes that it could help lift Lebanon out of the economic turmoil and political crisis it has been grappling with in recent years.

The Kana field and its territorial waters around it were handed over to Lebanon by the Israeli government led by Yair Lapid. As part of the negotiations, Israel relinquished its rights to the Kana reservoir and the gas reserves within it in order to facilitate the achievement of a maritime border demarcation agreement with Lebanon.
