A 67-year-old woman, Daniela Yakubovich, was stabbed to death on Saturday evening in her home on Iris Street in Nahariya. Police suspect her son, in his 30s and known to suffer from mental illness, carried out the attack before fleeing the scene. He was apprehended roughly an hour later following an extensive manhunt.

The victim’s husband, a retired police officer, reportedly emerged from the house covered in blood and called out to neighbors for help, yelling, “A terrible tragedy has happened to us.” Magen David Adom emergency services were dispatched at 10:02 p.m., but paramedics pronounced Yakubovich dead at the scene after attempts to resuscitate her failed.

Eyewitnesses and neighbors said the suspect was not consistently violent toward his parents but had a restraining order against him. Despite that, he still had a key to the house and allegedly entered unexpectedly before attacking his mother with a kitchen knife.

“He was very aggressive toward others on the street,” one neighbor recalled. “He used to slash car tires. This didn’t come out of nowhere.”

One of Yakubovich’s granddaughters arrived at the scene and screamed in anguish, “Grandma, what did he do to you?”

Northern District Police Commander Yechiel Bohdana arrived on site and conducted a situation assessment with local officers. Forensic teams began collecting evidence shortly after the report came in.
