We Will Not Forget

Trump Attacks Nobel Award to Navi Pillay

President Donald Trump attacked the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Navi Pillay, who chaired the UN inquiry that accused Israel of genocide in Gaza, and warned that Norway would not be forgotten; Israel's Foreign Ministry also condemned the award.

Navi Pillay

Navi Pillay chaired the UN inquiry that accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. On Friday she won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, and President Donald Trump attacked the award, saying the South African jurist is known only for hating Israel and warning that Norway will not be forgotten.

Ynet reported that Trump posted the attack on Saturday on his Truth Social platform. "I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else!" he wrote. "In fact, to the best of my knowledge, no one ever heard of her other than the fact that she, very obviously, hates Israel."

He had made the same case the night before. On Friday, at a campaign rally in Syracuse, New York, Trump described Pillay as "a liberal person who works at the United Nations, who nobody has ever heard of," The Jerusalem Post reported. He told the crowd the decision was "an indelible stain on the country of Norway." He added: "The Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and really enemies of civilization. And we will not forget Norway."

Trump argued that the United States, which he said he represented, should have received the prize. He again claimed to have settled eight wars, including those between India and Pakistan, Israel and Iran, and Israel and Hamas. "In actuality, I should have won 8 Nobel Peace Prizes, not just 1," he wrote. He said the United Nations had given him no help in any of those conflicts.

At the rally, Trump raised the hostages held in Gaza. "I got back all of the hostages in Israel, including the final 28, both living and dead," he said. "And I had to work with Hamas to do it." He also said he had stopped Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Israel's Foreign Ministry also condemned the award. "If there were a prize for lies, hatred and blood libels, Navi Pillay would not merely be a nominee. She would be the frontrunner," the ministry said. It called the decision "a grotesque weaponization of the prize to legitimize anti-Israel hatred and prejudice." The ministry closed its statement with this line: "Now that the Nobel Committee has awarded a prize to the biggest lie of the 21st century, Joseph Goebbels is surely applauding from hell."

The Norwegian Nobel Committee honored Pillay "for her efforts to promote peace and international law." She was the fifth UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, holding the post from 2008 to 2014, and she also served as a judge at the International Criminal Court. She later chaired the UN Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Last year that UN commission concluded that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza, and Israel dismissed its report.
