The New Month of Kislev

Sivan Rahav-Meir: It Came Exactly On Time

After a physical and practical victory in this world, it turns out that anything can happen. Everything can surprise for the better, a small jar of oil finally shines for eight days, and the light is greater than anything we could have imagined.

Good month. Remember what we learned about Kislev in kindergarten? It's all true, so true, right now. Today begins the month of Kislev 5784, and we so very much need it:

It is a month of light that shines out of the darkness and defeats the blackness.

This is a month where we fight for our identity, not only for who is stronger, but for who is more just. A month where faith and goodness and devotion finally triumph over evil and abuse and violence.

A month of bravery. The prowess of the military body and also the prowess of the spiritual soul.

It's a sustained feat, hard to sustain after a month of burnout. In this month, every small success counts, every daily routine that is so difficult to maintain - is a great heroism.

And it is a month of miracles. After a physical and practical victory in this world, it turns out that anything can happen, everything can surprise for the better, and a small jar of oil finally shines for eight days, and the light is greater than anything we could have imagined.

I wish all this will happen to us, soon. Happy month of Kislev.
