Fans' jumping shakes camera tower in Brazil

Third-tier league game stopped mid-play when visiting supporters' celebrations caused metal stand and elevated camera platform to sway violently; photographer struggled to operate VAR equipment as structure rocked beneath him

Brazil Match Halted After Fans' Jumping Shakes Camera Tower — Photographer Clung On

A third-tier league match in Brazil was stopped after visiting fans' jumping caused an elevated camera platform to shake violently. The photographer, who was also responsible for operating the video assistant referee system, struggled to work under the dangerous conditions, and a safety inspection led to an unusual decision: the match would continue without spectators.

The incident took place on Shabbos during a decisive-stage match in Brazil's third division, at a stadium in Santa Catarina state. The drama began in the away section during first-half stoppage time.

The fans jumped in celebration, but the intense movement caused the metal stand and the camera platform mounted above it to shake.

Footage circulated on social media shows the camera platform swaying repeatedly as fans continue jumping below. Stadium floodlights can also be seen shaking.

Photographer Patrick Domingos, who was working from the platform, said the vibrations made it difficult to operate the camera and maintain a steady image. According to him, the problem is not only the fans' behaviour but the structure itself: when the crowd jumps forcefully, the entire platform shakes and the equipment loses stability.

He explained that under such conditions it is difficult to produce the precise images required for identifying incidents and operating the video assistant referee system.
