Beijing Humanoid Half-Marathon: High-Speed Crash Goes Viral | WATCH
A historic Beijing marathon turns into a viral disaster as a humanoid robot fails to detect an obstacle and disintegrates on camera. See the dramatic footage of the crash and why only 6 out of 21 robots managed to reach the finish line.

The historic half-marathon in Beijing, the first of its kind to feature robots running alongside humans, exposed a massive gap between technological ambition and reality. While some machines managed to cross the finish line, one particular robot went viral for all the wrong reasons after crashing and completely disintegrating in front of cameras.
The Viral Collapse in Yizhuang
The incident occurred in the Yizhuang district of the Chinese capital. Footage circulating on social media shows one of the humanoid participants failing at the most basic task: obstacle detection. The robot failed to identify a barrier in its path, collided with it at full speed, and shattered into pieces.
Far from the "Terminator" image of pop culture, the machine remained disabled on the track until a special team arrived to clear the wreckage. This failure was not isolated; other videos from the event showed robots shaking, stumbling, and struggling to maintain an upright posture throughout the course.
Ambition vs. Reality
The 21-kilometer half-marathon was intended to showcase China's massive efforts to lead the humanoid robotics field and compete with global giants like Tesla and Boston Dynamics. However, the results on the ground were modest: out of 21 robots that gathered at the starting line, only six managed to complete the race.
The Winners' Circle
Despite the mechanical failures, the event recorded several notable successes for the industry:
