A wave of unexplained account suspensions on WhatsApp has raised concerns among users across Israel in recent days. Journalists, media professionals, business owners and private individuals have reported that their accounts were suddenly blocked without clear justification.
In some cases, accounts were restored after users submitted appeals through the app's review process. Others, however, have reported remaining locked out of their accounts with no resolution.
One pattern emerging from multiple reports involves the use of WhatsApp Web shortly before their accounts were suspended. The issue may stem from a technical glitch or automated detection systems incorrectly flagging legitimate activity as suspicious.
Other actions that could potentially trigger enforcement mechanisms include sending large volumes of messages in a short timeframe, extensive use of broadcast lists, contacting many recipients who are not saved contacts, and using unofficial third-party apps, plugins or automation tools.
Users whose accounts have been suspended can submit an appeal through the option that appears within the app.
WhatsApp has not officially acknowledged any widespread technical issue.
