Dozens of Israeli tourists vacationing at a luxury Club Med resort in the Seychelles have fallen severely ill with high fevers, vomiting, and diarrhea, sparking a dispute over the source of the outbreak. What was supposed to be a relaxing week long getaway for about forty Israelis turned into a medical nightmare as guests began dropping like flies over the weekend.
Guests reported that the first symptoms appeared on Friday night after they ate at one of the resort restaurants. One vacationer named Shai shared that his family arrived on Wednesday evening on a direct flight, only for his brother and father to fall victim to high fever, diarrhea, and vomiting shortly after. By Saturday, the on site clinic was completely overwhelmed with patients exhibiting identical symptoms.
Resort management brought in a doctor from the main island of Mahé who administered intravenous infusions. However, the doctor claimed that the guests arrived with an illness already contracted from Israel, a claim that the vacationers strongly reject. Shai noted that while some guests were taken by boat to receive injections, others were in such poor condition that they could not even manage the boat ride.
Vacationers believe that approximately ninety percent of the resort guests are Israeli, and the vast majority of those falling ill are from this group, alongside a few French and German guests. Affected guests claim that resort officials downplayed the scale of the outbreak by claiming only six people were sick and denying any food poisoning risk.
Conditions at the resort deteriorated further for the sick guests during the holiday weekend. Shai stated that he spent the entire night vomiting and feeling terrible while trying to recover. Guests complained that management stopped providing bottled water, cleaning rooms, or supplying fresh towels and bed linen despite repeated telephone pleas.
Some vacationers reported that resort management even tried to restrict doctor visits, forcing guests to arrange their own medical transport to Mahé or rely on travel insurance companies. Club Med Israel responded by stating that initial tests have not revealed bacterial findings and that the exact source of the illness remains under investigation.
Representatives from Club Med added that health and safety are their top priorities, noting that the medical team at the club is closely accompanying guests and providing necessary treatment. Independent medical experts suggest that strict sanitation audits and independent laboratory testing of resort food and water supplies are essential to verify the true origin of such sudden gastrointestinal outbreaks.
