The crash occurred around 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Scott Road and 71st Avenue, near the border with Surrey. According to police, a motorcycle collided with a silver BMW sedan. The force of the impact launched the motorcycle high into the air, where it ended up suspended from the traffic signal by its front wheel.
Bystanders who filmed the aftermath expressed shock, with one witness reportedly saying they couldn’t initially locate the motorcycle because it was hanging above the road. Emergency crews later used a crane to safely remove the bike from the pole.
The motorcyclist sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital. The driver of the sedan was not injured. Delta Police say speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The unusual scene quickly went viral on social media, with videos and photos showing the motorcycle dangling from the traffic light as police and bystanders looked on. The intersection was closed for several hours while the vehicle was recovered.
No charges have been announced at this time. The incident remains under investigation by Delta Police.
