As Operation Gideon's Chariots II advances in Gaza, Israel intensifies its campaign to dismantle Hamas’ military and political infrastructure. The declared goal remains unambiguous: the complete elimination of the terror group from the Gaza Strip.

Yet, alongside the military push, concerns surrounding the fate of Israeli hostages held in Gaza continue to mount. Families of those abducted warn that the ongoing operations have prompted Hamas to transfer captives to above-ground locations, raising fears of harsher conditions and extreme measures that may endanger their lives.

Mounting Pressure on Israel Abroad

The military offensive unfolds under a widening international spotlight. Across Europe and the Americas, pro-Palestinian demonstrations have become routine, with chants of “Free Palestine,” “Death to the IDF,” and “Stop the Genocide in Gaza” echoing in public squares and university campuses.

At the United Nations’ Geneva headquarters, the Human Rights Commission once again leveled sharp accusations against Israel. In its latest statement, the commission alleged that:

“The Israeli authorities intended to kill as many Palestinians as possible through its military operations in Gaza since 7 October 2023 and knew that the means and methods of warfare employed would cause mass deaths of Palestinians, including children.”

Coming from the UN, a declaration of this kind, even if lacking proof and with no factual base, could inflame the world even more against Israel.

Lula Among Most Vocal Critics

Among global leaders, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has emerged as one of Israel’s most vocal critics. From the early days of the Swords of Iron war, Lula repeatedly accused Israel of committing “genocide” in Gaza. His most recent remarks directly appealed to Brazil’s Jewish community, urging them to pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt the war, a statement that drew outrage from Jewish organizations in Latin America.

Fallout in Culture and Public Life

The political climate has also spilled into cultural arenas. Israel’s participation in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is under threat, as European States as Spain and Ireland have hinted they may withdraw if Israel is allowed to compete. Meanwhile, figures associated with pro-Israel activism, such as American political activist Charlie Kirk, have faced both violent attacks and boycotts, underscoring the rising risks for public supporters of the Jewish state worldwide.

The Road Ahead

Despite global pressure, Israeli officials insist that the campaign in Gaza will continue until Hamas’ military capacity is dismantled and hostages are returned. Still, the path forward remains uncertain, as Jerusalem struggles to balance military objectives, diplomatic isolation, and the urgent demand from families to bring their loved ones home.
