Outside Patis Bakery, a well-known kosher café in downtown Manhattan, a confrontation unfolded involving masked pro-Hamas demonstrators wearing keffiyehs and chanting for intifada, while harassing customers. They didn't stop there. They then pepper-sprayed an Israel supporter.
New York Police Department (NYPD) officers decided to intervene, arresting two "protesters".
Patis Bakery, New York City’s largest kosher chain, has faced financial challenges, filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2025 and closing its Times Square location. Despite this, it remains a symbol of Jewish cultural presence in Manhattan.
The protesters’ actions, part of a broader pattern of demonstrations following events like “A Night to Honor Israel" with former IDF Chief International Spokesperson, have drawn criticism for targeting Jewish businesses, a troubling trend exacerbated by the ongoing war.
Critics, including those on X, have pointed out a perceived double standard, asking, “Imagine if Jews protested outside a Muslim bakery?”
The assailants have since been released.
