WATCH: San Francisco sightglass Coffee Shop Kicks Out Customer After Dispute Over ‘Free Palestine’ Sweatshirt

The saddest thing is not even the flagrant antisemitism. It's the fact that regular people have such strong beliefs and views about the Israel Gaza conflict while only knowing half the facts.sightglass coffee incident

A customer at Sightglass Coffee in San Francisco was asked to leave on Sunday after questioning a staff member wearing a “Free Palestine” sweatshirt.

According to the Instagram post, the customer calmly asked the employee about hostages held by Hamas but was called a harasser and told to leave. The customer described the experience as a sign of growing antisemitism, arguing that the “Free Palestine” slogan is a veiled call for violence against Jews. “It’s a world where people see Jewish destruction as progressive, but Jewish pain and survival as offensive,” the post said.

The customer went on to compare the sweatshirt’s message to historical prejudices that fueled violence against Jews, now repackaged as a form of justice. “This kind of thing can’t be okay, not in coffee shops, schools, or anywhere,” the post continued, calling on others to speak out. “Staying quiet is the same as agreeing. Ignoring it is a betrayal.”

The post ended with a direct message to Sightglass: “The world is watching, and so are we.” The customer noted that the exchange was recorded in a public space and shared for accountability.

It's interesting to watch how the employee is initially friendly, when things fit her narrative about Palestine and Israel's aggression in Gaza. But as soon as the customer starts to ask probing questions, there's an immediate shift in tone, with the other employees and customers jumping on, laughing at the person who asked the questions and eventually kicking him out of the store.

Ironically, the employee doesn't even seem to know anything about the 59 Israeli hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza, but she seems comfortable expressing opinions about the conflict nonetheless. It's nothing we haven't seen before, to be honest, but that doesn't make it less disturbing.

Sightglass Coffee hasn’t commented on the incident.
