Beyond the human casualties, the earthquake has inflicted massive damage on infrastructure and property throughout the affected regions. Multiple airports, historic buildings, railway lines, and tourist sites have sustained severe damage. Hundreds, possibly thousands, of residential buildings have either collapsed entirely or suffered structural damage that renders them unsafe for habitation. Colombian officials report that rescue operations to free those trapped under debris are expected to continue for several days, while the process of recovering victims' bodies could extend for weeks or longer.

Local government officials in the affected provinces estimate that hundreds of citizens, possibly more, remain trapped beneath the rubble. However, many residents managed to evacuate before numerous buildings collapsed completely.

Colombia has not yet issued a formal request for international assistance, though observers note that recent political changes in the country and warming relations with the United States, Israel, and Western nations position Colombia to receive aid from multiple countries if needed. Regardless of external support, this represents a significant natural disaster that has caused substantial damage to both the economy and civilian population. Recovery and reconstruction efforts are expected to span several years.
