Caregiver Indicted for Assaulting Autistic Patients in Central Israel

In a disturbing case involving the abuse of vulnerable individuals, the State Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment against Eyal Ben Harush, 55, for the violent assault of two autistic patients under his care.

The indictment, filed Tuesday in the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court, details two separate incidents occurring at different facilities in the Shfela region where Ben Harush served as a guide and caregiver.

The prosecution, led by Attorney Orad Shalv, described a pattern of aggressive behavior toward both a minor and an adult on the autism spectrum:

  • Assault on a 12-Year-Old: According to the indictment, a 12-year-old patient threw an object and a plastic bottle at Ben Harush. In response, Ben Harush allegedly rushed toward the boy, grabbed him by the hair, and shook him violently while shouting, "You don't know me!" The minor sustained physical injuries from the attack.
  • Assault on a 24-Year-Old: In a separate facility, Ben Harush was in a closed workshop room with a 24-year-old autistic patient. When the patient repeatedly approached him and eventually knocked on the door, Ben Harush reportedly pinned the man against the wall and slapped him repeatedly on the head and face.
