Authorities say 20-year-old from southern Israel had contact with foreign operatives, stockpiled weapons, and prepared explosives for planned bombing at Beersheba nightclub

Suspect Abdallah Gargawi

Israeli authorities have charged a 20-year-old male from the Negev with planning a terrorist attack in the southern city of Beersheba, following an investigation that revealed alleged contact with foreign operatives and extensive weapons stockpiling.

Abdullah Gargawi, a resident of Segev Shalom, was arrested approximately one month ago and formally indicted Tuesday on serious security offenses as well as illegal weapons possession charges.

Gargawi was detained on July 19 during a joint operation by the Yoav Unit of Israel Police's Southern District and officers from the Segev Shalom station. According to investigators, the suspect had been exposed over an extended period to content associated with the ISIS terrorist organization on social media platforms, identified with the group's ideology, and consumed terrorist propaganda. The investigation further revealed that Gargawi established connections with individuals online, including someone who presented himself as a Palestinian terrorist operative, and participated in Telegram groups where ISIS-related content and terrorist activity materials were exchanged.

Investigators say Gargawi took concrete steps toward carrying out an attack, including actions aimed at preparing explosive materials and constructing an improvised explosive device. These preparations were allegedly part of a plan to execute a car bombing at "The Forum", a nightclub in Beersheba.

During March and April 2026, authorities allege he possessed an illegal M16-style firearm containing standard weapon parts, weapon accessories, and ammunition, and even fired it in an open area. Additionally, throughout 2025, the indictment states that Gargawi kept numerous weapons at his home, including a MAG machine gun, a Kalashnikov rifle, a Negev rifle, an M16, magazines, and ammunition.

Following the completion of the investigation, the Southern District Prosecutor's Office filed a severe indictment Tuesday at the Beersheba District Court against the suspect on security-related offenses as well as illegal weapons and ammunition possession charges. "This involves serious activity in which the suspect planned to advance terrorist operations and carry out an attack", authorities stated. "His intentions were thwarted well in advance through joint activity by the Israel Police and the Shin Bet security service, before he could realize his plan".

Officials added that "the Israel Police and Shin Bet view with utmost severity any involvement of Israeli citizens in terrorist activity, and will continue to act decisively to thwart terrorist intentions and pursue the full severity of the law against those involved in terrorist offenses who seek to harm citizens and residents of the State of Israel".
