On July 23, Jerusalem police were called to an apartment in the Katamon neighborhood following reports that a man had been found dead with signs of violence on his body. Officers secured the scene and launched an initial investigation alongside forensic identification teams from the district, quickly determining that a criminal act had occurred.
Following the initial findings, Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Avshalom Peled arrived at the scene and held a special situation assessment with district command. He ordered swift investigative action and assigned the case to the Jerusalem District Central Unit (known by its Hebrew acronym Yamar). Investigators from the unit immediately began focused operational and investigative work, leading to the suspect's arrest shortly after the incident began.
According to police, the suspect, a 31-year-old resident of Eilat, had been released from a lengthy prison sentence just six days before the incident. He had been incarcerated for a previous violent offense. After intensive investigative efforts, Yamar detectives succeeded in building a solid evidentiary foundation against the suspect. Today, the Jerusalem District Prosecutor's Office filed a prosecutor's statement against him in magistrate's court, and an indictment is expected to be filed in the coming days.
Chief Superintendent Yitzhak Dahan, head of the Jerusalem Yamar investigation team, stated: "This was a severe and difficult violent incident against a foreign worker who cared for an elderly couple. From the moment we took responsibility for managing the investigation, we acted quickly and with all available tools to collect evidence, uncover the truth, and arrest the suspect. Thanks to the intensive and professional work of the unit's investigators, we built a solid evidentiary foundation that today leads to the filing of a prosecutor's statement."
