Two More Arrested in Eldar Dayan Murder Investigation

Israeli police announced Monday evening a significant development in the investigation into the death of Eldar Yitzhak Dayan: two additional individuals have been taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in a violent altercation that took place around the time of the 23-year-old's killing. According to Ynet, the suspects were questioned by investigators and are scheduled to appear Tuesday at Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court for a hearing on extending their detention.

Law enforcement officials stressed that the newly arrested suspects are not considered suspects in Dayan's murder. Instead, they face potential charges related to offenses connected to the fight that broke out at the scene that evening, close to the time of the tragic events that led to Dayan's death.

The latest arrests add to a series of major developments in the complex case. Previously, authorities had detained two central suspects, Omri Peretz and Maxim Barberman, both friends of Dayan who were with him on the day he disappeared. During interrogation, the two provided contradictory accounts: one claimed all three were attacked by unknown assailants, while the other flatly denied any such incident occurred.

A court has already extended the detention of Peretz and Barberman on suspicion of direct involvement in the murder. Police officials believe the extensive investigative efforts currently underway will ultimately reveal the full circumstances of Dayan's final moments and provide a complete picture of what transpired.

The tragic chain of events began on July 16, when Dayan, a 23-year-old originally from Dimona, went out with his friends Peretz and Barberman. In the hours that followed, he managed brief contact with his sister and girlfriend, sending them a cryptic message that included the words "chaos, we'll talk." From that moment, all communication ceased, his mobile phone went dark and no further sign of life was received.

Eventually, the vehicle in which the three had been traveling was found abandoned in Petah Tikva, its windshield shattered and bloodstains visible on its surface. The findings initially raised suspicion of a hit-and-run incident, but for three weeks investigators explored various scenarios regarding the circumstances of the disappearance.

The dramatic turning point came with the discovery of Dayan's body just 200 meters from where the abandoned car had been located. Once the body was found and the investigation officially became a murder inquiry, family members leveled sharp criticism at police handling of the case. They claimed they were not informed in real time about the body's discovery and that their son had been wronged by inaccurate media reports.

Dayan was laid to rest in his hometown of Eilat, accompanied by family members and mourners who firmly rejected attempts to link his name to criminal activity. Now, with the additional arrests, police continue to widen their investigative net and examine all those involved in the events leading to the tragedy.
