A London court convicted British comedian and actor Russell Brand on Thursday on serious sexual offences. After a month of tense proceedings, the jury delivered its verdict on all counts: Brand, 51, known for his role in the film "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," was found guilty on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
The case reached the courtroom following complaints by six women, which led to Brand being charged with three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of attempted indecent assault.
According to the indictment, the incidents occurred between 1999 and 2009 ,the years during which Brand broke into public consciousness, transforming from an unknown performer into a globally recognised entertainment figure, and entered a high-profile relationship with singer Katy Perry.
Throughout the legal proceedings, Brand maintained his innocence and vigorously denied the allegations against him. Over the past month, the court heard detailed testimony from the complainants, whose identities remained protected by law, alongside testimony from Brand himself, his wife, and additional defence witnesses. Today, the jury reached its decision and convicted the star.
