Iran is currently examining a series of proposals regarding its nuclear program and possible future, the New York Times reported Thursday evening. Sources involved in the details claimed this represents a potential breakthrough in contacts between the US and Iran toward an agreement that would bring an end to the war.

According to the report, Qatar has conducted a series of meetings and mediation efforts in recent weeks between the two countries in an attempt to reduce tensions and prevent a return to intense fighting. Five Iranian and American sources said the discussions involve "concrete proposals", without specifying what they entail.

At the same time, the sources said Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, has shown openness in closed-door conversations to discuss Iran's nuclear program. According to the report, the letter US Vice President JD Vance delivered to him several weeks ago "proved that the US has changed its tone toward Iran. This is a sign of the strength and victory of the Iranian people."

Earlier Thursday, it was reported that Rezaei met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. According to the Russian statement, the conversation dealt with "recent developments in the region and the continuation of strategic cooperation between the countries." Meanwhile, Iranian media outlets claimed no new military commitments were announced during the meeting.
