Pizzeria Terror: Teenager Arrested with Butcher Knife in Haredi City
A 17-year-old resident of Modi'in Illit has been arrested after brandishing a meat cleaver in a local pizzeria, part of a wider police crackdown on rising youth violence.

Police detectives in the religious city of Modi'in Illit have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of threatening another teenager with a meat cleaver inside a local pizzeria. The incident occurred as part of an alarming increase in youth violence in the area. Following the arrest, a court extended the teenager's detention under house arrest conditions as investigators work to file a formal indictment. On the same evening, another violent incident involving minors took place in neighboring Modi'in, where two teenagers were detained for using pepper spray on a peer.
These arrests are part of a major police initiative dubbed "Operation Rod of Darkness," led by the Central District Commander. This broad operation is designed to aggressively target bullying, violence, and drug use among teenagers in both Haredi and secular cities. The policy, backed by the National Security Minister and the Police Commissioner, includes increased police presence in entertainment hubs where youth often congregate.
Beyond enforcement and arrests, the police emphasized that the operation includes a preventive "envelope" involving educational outreach in schools. Officers are working within the community to deter youth from entering a life of crime and to promote tolerance. A police spokesperson stated that they will continue to act with a heavy hand against any manifestations of violence to ensure public safety and restore quiet to the streets, utilizing all available tools to eradicate the scourge of violence among the younger generation.
