Chabad Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Shneur Zalman Feldman Dies at 42 

The global Chabad community is mourning the loss of Rabbi Shneur Zalman Feldman, a beloved rosh yeshiva who passed away Saturday night at the tragically young age of 42 after enduring a prolonged and painful illness with extraordinary courage.

Rabbi Feldman, a resident of Kfar Chabad, served for years as head of the Tomchei Tmimim yeshiva ketana in Rishon LeZion from its founding until its closure several months ago. During the most recent academic year, he taught as a maggid shiur at the Tomchei Tmimim yeshiva in Netanya, continuing his life's mission of Torah education despite his deteriorating health.

The son of Rabbi Shlomo Chaim Feldman of Kfar Chabad and son-in-law of the Shneorson family from Nachlat Har Chabad in Kiryat Malachi, Rabbi Feldman came from distinguished Chabad lineage. His mother is a descendant of the Zaks family, among the pioneering families who settled Kfar Chabad following its establishment in the early years of the State of Israel.

Those who knew Rabbi Feldman describe a figure who embodied the highest ideals of Chabad chassidus — a man of profound yiras shamayim who combined exceptional dedication to Torah study with an unwavering commitment to his students' spiritual growth. As both rosh yeshiva and maggid shiur, he devoted himself completely to elevating his talmidim in their learning of Torah and chassidus, inspiring them through personal example as much as through his teaching.

In recent months, Rabbi Feldman endured severe physical suffering as his illness progressed. Yet witnesses to his final period describe his spiritual strength as nothing short of heroic. "His courage during that time was visible to anyone who looked at him," one close associate recalled, speaking of the rabbi's determination to maintain his dignity and faith even as his body weakened.

The levaya took place overnight Saturday in Kfar Chabad, beginning at the family home on Admor HaRayatz Street 14. In a scene that tore at the hearts of all present, Rabbi Feldman's young children recited Kaddish, their voices breaking with grief as they fulfilled this sacred obligation for their father.

Following the funeral service in Kfar Chabad, the procession continued to Tzfat, where Rabbi Feldman was laid to rest in the ancient cemetery of the northern city, joining generations of Torah scholars who have found their final resting place in the holy soil of the Galilee.

As news of his death spread through Chabad communities worldwide, thousands began reciting Tehillim and sharing memories of a man whose impact on his students and colleagues far exceeded his brief 42 years. The outpouring of grief reflects the deep impression Rabbi Feldman made on all who encountered his combination of Torah scholarship, spiritual devotion, and personal warmth.
