Baby Born Near Rabbi Nachman's Tomb in Uman

United Hatzalah medics delivered a healthy baby girl near the gravesite of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov in Ukraine, the second birth in Uman this week as tens of thousands of Hasidic pilgrims gather for the Jewish New Year

Rabbi Nachman's Tomb

Emergency medical volunteers in Uman, Ukraine, delivered a healthy baby girl early Thursday morning near the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, the spiritual leader of the Breslov Hasidic movement who died in 1810. United Hatzalah medics Dana Weber and Shulamit Tzarfati responded to an urgent call and arrived to find the mother in active labor.

The medics assisted with the delivery, and both mother and newborn were reported to be in good health. "I was called to a birth in progress near Rabbi Nachman's gravesite and realized the delivery was advancing rapidly," Weber recounted. "I began providing the necessary assistance to ensure the safety of both mother and baby. Within a short time, thank G-d, a healthy baby girl was born." Following the delivery, an ambulance transported mother and daughter to a local hospital for further examination and monitoring, with both in stable condition.

The birth occurred during the annual Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage to Uman, when tens of thousands of Breslov Hasidim and other visitors travel to the Ukrainian city to pray at Rabbi Nachman's gravesite during the Jewish High Holidays. This tradition has continued for generations, with followers believing that spending the New Year at their leader's tomb holds special spiritual significance. This marks the second birth in Uman in recent days, a baby boy was born earlier this week.

Israeli police have deployed special units to Uman to assist the large Israeli contingent visiting the site, with teams handling various incidents including medical emergencies throughout the pilgrimage period.
