The American embassy in the Saudi capital Riyadh announced it will carry out an immediate emergency evacuation, following direct orders from the State Department and the White House, in what appears to be another indication of possible escalation in the region.

The embassy's official statement confirms earlier reports of a covert evacuation that began several days ago, against the backdrop of the likelihood of renewed war against Tehran.

The embassy stated regarding the evacuation: "Effective October 23, 2026, the State Department has ordered non-emergency U.S. government employees and their family members to depart Saudi Arabia due to safety concerns."

American officials officially linked the move to the Saudi-Yemeni conflict, but until now, the Houthi rebels have not acted to harm American interests, and President Trump has refused to act on Saudi Arabia's behalf against the terror organization, pointing out that understandings exist between the sides. It is therefore reasonable to assume the move is connected to Iran.

The statement explained that due to growing risks on Saudi territory, all non-essential personnel will be evacuated immediately and the embassy will transition to a partial and severely reduced operation, providing services only in exceptional cases.

Beyond that, they advised American citizens in the country to maintain heightened caution and vigilance: "U.S. citizens should be aware of possible attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and travel disruptions. Please exercise extreme caution if you choose to use airports in Saudi Arabia. We recommend checking your flight departure status directly with the airline and airport."
